Catherine's Annual Yuletide Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.
A Theme of Love and Generosity
The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The princess has been making her own gradual return to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.
A Family Affair
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.
That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
