LA Explodes in Jubilation as Los Angeles Dodgers Secure Back-to-Back World Series Victory
Los Angeles witnessed citywide celebrations after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a thrilling seven-match World Series championship. Supporters worldwide joined Angelenos in jubilation, marking the initial time in 25 years that a team has achieved consecutive championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Enormous Crowds
Local celebrations featured a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a reserved-seating event at Dodger Stadium, and spontaneous parties across the city.
Social media videos depict countless of Angelenos packing downtown streets, many displaying homemade signs and team flags. The team was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, raising the championship trophy proudly.
“My focus is already about the next championship we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an translator.
The procession path ended at Dodger Stadium, where the players walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and the artist cruising a Pacific blue classic car around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Athlete Responses
Festivities started prior to the procession, with Dodgers fans setting off flares in the streets of the city center on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke plainly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Mixed Reactions and City Unity
However, Mark Walter received a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the event appear to show Walter walking onstage to a combination of cheers and jeers, with negative shouts punctuating his speech.
The championship served as a positive moment in what has been a challenging year for the city. An approximate quarter-million people showed up to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed as much if not more enthusiasm.
“I feel like it’s nearly twice from last year,” he remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
