Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
