The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.

Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat corruption within the police force.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

Series Legacy

The drama premiered in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.

The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.

However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
