Officials in the island state are striving to determine a magenta ooze that has surfaced on a remote shoreline, with a number of researchers concerned it could be an phytoplankton proliferation.

"So we needs to deliver a clear message here, the officials and the regulators need to respond to this. We need to study the specimens we've gathered and we need to inform the community here," she stated.
She said she had worries for public safety after experiencing a tingling sensation along her body while being exposed with contaminated seawater.

An conservation group has reported deceased sea creatures and dead sea cucumbers being found on the beach, with a veteran activist labeling the circumstances as an "environmental emergency" and calling on the government head to visit and "assume command the response that authorities must be making".
