President Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Devastating Incident
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The president said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed reporters. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she also intended to visit his relatives.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
