Atkinson felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell on Saturday.

The England team reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series at the SCG gets underway this coming Sunday.

England have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman because of a side injury during this series.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.
