Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation battling rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the forty-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, one of whom began shooting at him before escaping on foot.
The purpose behind the shooting has not been established and no arrests have been made, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Authorities said that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a location in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the property overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, as per local media.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement confirmed.
CCTV footage showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the crime scene.

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to find their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.

"I am in shock. I am shattered," were her words.

She appealed to the community to not sharing disturbing footage from the incident, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's three sons.
