The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
