Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG

The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to develop a TTRPG set within the series' post-pandemic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive planned to launch in April of 2026.

"This endeavor will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an announcement.

Launch products will include a beginner's box, essential manuals, a GM screen, figurines, and several deluxe editions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this setting, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, sending the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic escalates, civil order breaks down and hostile groups rise, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the players enter the story.

Development on the game has been in progress for approximately three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider market, particularly in the United States. Production will start immediately following the fundraiser, with shipping expected for later in 2026.

An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System

An early look at the game's rules confirms it employs 10-sided dice exclusively through its new GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and strategic style. Agents use skills or traits to roll a handful of dice, usually between one and five d10s.

  • Rather than summing the total, players choose a single “result die” from the pool.
  • This die is then compared against a set challenge number.
  • Rolling a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as increased harm or boosted support.

Engagements Emphasize Tactical Placement and Awareness

Battles stress positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the source material. Elements like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight have a direct impact dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to favor teamwork and smart positioning over raw numbers.

A Thematic Health Mechanic

The way health is managed adds a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their capabilities by decreasing the size of their dice pool.

  1. At critical condition, an agent is downed, but is not knocked out.
  2. They may still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the last stand common to video game shooters.
  3. Any agent in this state must roll on a injury chart, risking persistent effects like trauma or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released soon. It contains a ready-to-play introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group lead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an assault by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the full range of offerings will be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
